I want to improve my household Hindi skills to a superior level to
use professionally.

I plan to enroll for a M.A. in South Asian Studies at University of
Texas at Austin. Afterwards, I want to enroll at Georgetown Law Center
with the Global Law Scholars program to pursue a J.D. in international
law. I aim to work for an IGO like the United Nations in a department
focused on South Asia where I will use my Hindi skills as a legal advisor.
|
|
I use my target language at home with my family, friends and fellow CLS alumni.

I intend to use my Hindi skills when working for an IGO in a department

Participation in the CLS Program led to my interest in a MA in
South Asian Studies and to learn other South Asian languages.

My favorite part of India was meeting children around the neighborhood.
It was a casual opportunity for me to practice my Hindi and for them
to practice their English. One group taught me how to play cricket.

I learned the necessity of a good pair of rain boots when trekking
through monsoon rainstorms and flooded roads.

Three friends and I visited Bombay. We arrived
at the train station to discover that we were only assigned two sleeping
berths to share between four people for our return voyage. One of
our traveling companions, towering at staggering 6’4”,
was given his own berth. The remaining three of us, myself included,
shared a single sleeping berth during the twelve-hour train ride
back to our host city, Jaipur. Eventually the three of us contorted
ourselves to fit in the 2’x6’ space for a faint sleep
until morning. Along with back aches, neck cricks and swollen ankles,
we returned to class with great stories to share.

I was born in the United Kingdom in the same county where Harry
Potter lives with the Dursley’s (Surrey, England). I grew up
in a north Indian family that speaks Hindi and Urdu. I’m an
avid dancer and I’m part of a garba/raas dance troupe at my
university. I also enjoy photography, foreign languages and playing
the violin.
